Dongseo University, which is rapidly evolving into a future university, saw students and parents from all over the country enthusiastically responding to its proclaimed theme of “There’s no university like it” for the 2021 enrollment period. Dongseo University officially announced that as the enrollment period ended on September 28, a total of 11,871 candidates nationwide had applied for a total of 2,015 places available, giving a competition rate of 5.89 to 1. This is a remarkable rate in an era when Korea’s university student numbers are declining, and is comparable to those of other major Korean universities. Moreover, the in-quota enrollment rate was higher still, the 11,298 applications for 1889 places resulting in a competition rate of 5.98 to 1.
The department that witnessed the highest competition rate was the Dental Hygiene Department with a rate 32.5 to 1, followed by the Nursing Science Department with 29.67 to 1, the Biomedical Laboratory Science Department with 24.25 to 1, and the Police Administration Department with 23 to 1.
Recently officially declaring its status as a ‘Future University that Puts Thoughts into Action,’ DSU is renewing its education system and evolving its educational contents. Under a comprehensive theme of DSU’s continued globalization, a 12-point action plan has been developed to empower DSU’s determination to continue its innovation drive.
As the first step in the implementation of this plan, blended learning, which combines online and offline teaching, has been fully introduced from the second semester in order to realize learning that transcends time and space. In addition, it: builds a learning space where classes, experiments, and practice are possible at any time and place; it develops tangible online lecture contents using AR/VR; it implements virtual reality classes; and it provides AI, maker, and design education for all students.
This new style of learning has also suggested and enabled ways to dramatically increase students' global competencies, such as on-tact experience education that connects to overseas sites, inviting world-renowned scholars, and utilizing prestigious overseas lecture contents and excellent teaching contents. In particular, these new possibilities will be expanded upon with the conducting of Capstone Design global field experience projects in 10 overseas cities, including Los Angeles and San Antonio in the US, Shanghai and Wuhan in China, Tokyo and Fukuoka in Japan, Oulu in Finland, Vilnius in Lithuania, Hanoi in Vietnam, and Surabaya in Indonesia.
Based on the united strength of its faculty and student body, DSU has additionally been selected and supported for various government projects such as the 2020 start-up package support project, the 2020 makespace construction and operation project supervisory institution project, and the laboratory-specific startup leading university project, with a combined level of financial support in excess of 20 billion won.
Dongseo University President Jekuk Chang said, “I would like to express my great appreciation to the numerous candidates from all over the country for applying to DSU, which is evolving into the most innovative university.” “After enrolling,” he continued, “I promise that I will strive to help all members of DSU to develop into completely new and extremely competitive talents to advance into society.”
